PROTECT NET NEUTRALITY [24 Feb 2008|02:35pm]

Net Neutrality

A Guide to Net Neutrality for Google Users

"Net neutrality" is an issue that will shape the future of the Internet. Google has created this guide to net neutrality, which includes a brief overview of the subject, an update on where things stand in the U.S. policy debate, a set of actions you can take to protect the Internet, and the text of an open letter from our CEO, Eric Schmidt.

What is Net Neutrality?

Network neutrality is the principle that Internet users should be in control of what content they view and what applications they use on the Internet. The Internet has operated according to this neutrality principle since its earliest days. Indeed, it is this neutrality that has allowed many companies, including Google, to launch, grow, and innovate. Fundamentally, net neutrality is about equal access to the Internet. In our view, the broadband carriers should not be permitted to use their market power to discriminate against competing applications or content. Just as telephone companies are not permitted to tell consumers who they can call or what they can say, broadband carriers should not be allowed to use their market power to control activity online. Today, the neutrality of the Internet is at stake as the broadband carriers want Congress's permission to determine what content gets to you first and fastest. Put simply, this would fundamentally alter the openness of the Internet.

What is the Current Status of Net Neutrality?
Net neutrality is a major issue as the U.S. considers new telecommunications laws. The U.S. House of Representatives passed its telecommunications bill, H.R. 5252, in May, without adequate net neutrality protections. Now the fight has moved to U.S. Senate. On June 28, the Senate Commerce Committee passed its own telecom bill, S. 2686. While an amendment to the bill that would have added meaningful net neutrality safeguards failed 11-11, this tie vote marks a significant political victory and gives the effort new momentum. The debate now shifts to the full Senate, where advocates will be working to get strong net neutrality language is any bill that the Senate considers.

its been a while lets see

sam's bday party was amazing
so much booty dancing, of course I had to show off my moves
the secret handshake was awesome, glad I'm going on tour with luis
and cory was superb as both ocelot mthrfckrs and as the dj of the night
by the end of the night I was tanked

next night was new years at coderos
honestly I don't remember much I was far gone, didn't even realize when sam and movieboy got in a fight with some dude
but what I do remember was lots of fun
oh and I ate like 6 cheesy bean and rice burritos this day mainly thanks to morgan

one night movieboy and I drove to frisco to hang out with cooter and her bro friends it was funny

the next day movieboy, eric and I got so high and go to ikea, I'm gonna be honest with you it was probably one of best experiences ever
fucking hit up so many parties there like 8 and all in the afternoon (really cooter just took pics of us pretending to party at the different ikea room models hahaha)
by the way where are those pics at cooter?

I went to rachels going away party with morgan, I finally hung out with karly again haha, got trashed, jonny and jason warhammer showed up, we transfered the party to karly's and then we finally hit up waffle house before heading home

sam, movieboy and I went to austin on sunday at like 6pm got there around 10 and went straight to the bars
around 1:30am we left 6th street to drink at corys
then at like 3am mindy and tyty came and picked me up and we went to her apt
stayed the night there
I hadn't seen her in almost a year, weird considering what we had
anyways the next night at cory's we watched rize (weird movie) high and go out with some of movieboys friends and this one guy pays for all of our drinks, I had 4 beers and 3 shots, then we went back to corys continued drinking then passed out
left austin on tuesday at like 5pm
once we got back to dallas movieboy and I head to denton
it was salsa night at hailey's haha it was weird, then we went over to some friends house, I seriously never had been into a house that smelled so much like weed and I have a lot of weed smoking friends
needless to say by the time movieboy and I left the next morning it smelled way more so, oh and we hit up ihop all you can eat pancakes before we even passed out there, shit fucking rules, I eat so much

well now patrick (movieboy) went back to san francisco so its time to chill out on all the partying, seriously it was like 3 weeks straight of it hahaha

I was supposed to go back to austin with sterling but fucker wanted me to wake up at like 5 to get on the bus/dart rail/train for almost 2 hours cuz he was too lazy to pick me up, fuck that

80's night at haileys or possibly getting tattooed tonight

p.s. I'm fucking glad I'm single again, shit rules
